Why a National Talent Bank?

Almost a third of UK employers have already or are considering cutting back working hours, requiring sabbaticals or deferring new recruits (CBI Employment Trends Survey, June 2009).

Nine out of ten companies made changes to working patterns in response to the recession. More than a third (35%) embraced flexible working, including tele-working. Other changes to working patterns included cutting shifts (13%) and short-time working (12%) (CBI/Harvey Nash Survey May 2010).

The National Talent Bank was launched on 21 July 2009 in response to the economic downturn. It aims to make the most of these temporary circumstances by matching the talent and time of employees with volunteering projects which will benefit them and communities in need.

The National Talent Bank matches this capacity to help with community need by focussing on three themes – the next generation, a greener society and local communities.

Find out how it works

Rising levels of youth unemployment means there is an even bigger demand for skills development among young people. That is why we welcome the National Talent Bank and are pleased to be part of it. We look forward to students being able to benefit from highly skilled people raising their aspirations and delivering a skills programme that will offer these young people a clearer route from training to work.
